I applied for a position and was contacted by the principal of a recruiting company that has been retained for a nationwide search. It is a VP position for a mid sized well known org (approx. 15k+ FTEs) and is in the low 400's prior to any bonuses/incentives. That was on Thursday, today is Tuesday. This is for healthcare and the recruiter is an MD so pretty busy I imagine. However, she did say that she would be reaching out to me for next steps. I responded with a brief but enthusiastic message.

I do ok now (not 400k though, that would be a significant increase) and don't even know if it's something I want to step into but I do want to explore. I've heard nothing yet. How long would you give prior to following up? Again, it's an outside recruiting organization.

For any position paying that well, there are going to be a lot of people provided to the company by the recruiter, and a busy MD is going to need time to go over them all. Interrupting them to ask for an update could be considered annoying, but I would consider it respectful to ask after two weeks have passed.

400k and you asking question, the company already decided who they wanted three years before it became open, you are just paperwork, if you dont have a phd in some rare medical cure and been running your own business for thirty year. Forget it. nobody pays that money for a no name person. I would wait 24 hours at most

Ignore the grammatically challenged poster above. I would wait a week and follow-up with an email. If I still don't hear back in 48 hours I would call the recruiter. Good luck!

Agreed, that user is on my Ignore List because they frequently leave snarky comments for no reason that can be barely understood as it is.

Thanks all. Interview/discussion scheduled for this Tuesday. Early stages but I’m honestly thinking it’s something I probably don’t want but will find out more I guess. I do fine now and may not want to complicate the life I enjoy. And this would be a sizeable step up for me so would be surprised if I get too far in the process.

Good luck on your interview OP. In my experience, recruiting firms want to get that commission so they will never forget you if you look promising. Following up will feel good and make you feel like you are in control but usually completely unnecessary.
