I'm not sure it's productive to post examples of misuse of apostrophes. We could run this topic up to 100 pages if we do that. Any active member of this forum sees dozens of examples of incorrect punctuation every day if they read much on this forum.
I view this discussion as a sad commentary on our schools system, and the poor job they are doing teaching grammar.
I'm sure some of this ignoramuses write that way because they simply do not care.
gentlehearts, look at the hints right above your virtual keyboard. Sometimes my iPad wants to type the wrong thing but what I want is at the far left. That's where unusual words iPad doesn't know appear, like "did you really mean THIS?"
Well it is a world wide problem and as a retired teacher, apostrophe misuse really bugs me. It is worse in our northern state of Queensland, where my family years ago banned me from any discusssion of the topic. But when my daughter was working in the UK she did tell me that there were organisations there promoting the correct use of apostrophes.
