We are thinking of moving from Charlotte NC to Sheridan WY. We are married with two boys 7 and 13. My husband is a Police Officer here and is thinking of trying to find a job policing in Sheridan. I am a police officer now but want to get out of that field so I can spend more time with my family. The crime rate and drugs are horrible out here. I've done some research and the crime and drugs in Sheridan doen't seem as bad. Is this true? I'm hoping to get in touch w/ a family that can help me learn more about this area such as schools, jobs, things to do with your family on the weekends. I am thinking of becoming a stay at home mom or maybe getting a part-time job while my kids are in school. Are there many stay at home moms in this area? Is this a family oriented town? Hope so because this is what my family is looking for!!
Please somebody give me some good info.

Sheridan is a nice small city, you could probably keep your doors unlocked if you wanted to. Bighorn mountains are off to the west with lots of outdoor activities. Yellowstone is just a short drive to the west. The city itself is very small compared to Charlotte, that could be good and bad depending on your point of view. Cost of living is ok for most things except housing. Real estate and rentals are sky high compared to other cities of it's size. So many people are coming to Wyoming for it's jobs in energy production that it is creating a housing shortage. This is a problem (a good one I guess) that the whole state is now facing. Just remember that Wyoming is very spread out, the nearest cities are Billings, MT and Gillette, both are a couple hours away.

Good luck in your moveto Sheridan, if you decide to make it. A move and a new place can be stressful at times, but a change of scenery is usuallya good thing.

I recently applied for a job in Sheridan, we'llsee how that turns out.

Sheridan???? Don't do it. All you'll run across is friendly people and good times. So stay away. hahahaha

I just got word, USN recalled me and I have to go to Egypt. Egypt???? What the heck is going on in Egypt.

Anybody looking to rent a 1600 sq ft home? Might have one available. I ain't even moving my furniture out. Just going to walk away and have my son make sure the heat is working. hahaha

3 bedroom, 2 bath. Open beam cealings, sky lights. Fire place and I've cut over 4 cords of wood and split it. Now I don't get to use it.

Default A Small Town

I WAS IN WY IN SEPT. WENT THRU SHERIDAN . IT IS A SMALL TOWN.THE HOUSING SHORTAGE IS VERY REAL AND SEVERE.IF YOU READ THE WY CITY-DATA,YOU'LL FIND MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN QUITE DISCOURAGED WITH THE RENTING AND BUYING SITUATION THERE. SHERIDAN IS ISOLATED FROM OTHER CITIES.YOU SHOULD VISIT FIRST. I LIVE IN CA,IN A VERY NORTHERN ISOLATED TOWN. MUCH BEAUTY,LOW CRIME, BUT THE ISOLATION WILL CATCH UP WITH YOU ,AFTER A WHILE. ALSO ,TO YOU ,VETERAN,GOD BLESS YOU AND THANK YOU FOR THE GUTTS TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY...

Jgussler, I cannot put into words the admiration I have for our men and women in the Armed Forces. Thank you so very much for protecting all that we hold so dear.

Now, as for Sheridan, I don't know how windy it gets there, but I have a friend that moved to Gillette and there's always a breeze there and at times can get quite windy. I love WY and can't wait to get out west again.
