I wonder how much they're paying him. But I'm fairly sure that that's confidential.

Have you noticed that none of the proud schoolteachers or other recipients of my tax money are saying nothing?

It certainly will not be a life changing event for Wyoming.

Also the Casper Star Tibune paper reported that no public funding is being used to pay for this even. The Social Justice Research Center is apparently privately funded.
In the years on this forum, I have encountered a number of full-ride scholarship students at UW who had extremely disparaging views of Wyoming and it's citizens. Some of them were very active in far-left liberal causes, and it was easy to find their posts (rants?) on other sites. Most didn't have the common sense to understand who was paying for their "free ride" to UW and the public costs of the university facilities. Rather than being grateful for their free education, they were slamming the people and the state who made it possible.

Similarly, the SJRC can claim that the costs of bringing in a speaker to the UW are borne by a private benefactor ... but the reality is that there are substantial costs incidental to that luncheon which are very public in nature, such as the physical facilities for the forum and the UW campus which lends it's status (prestige?) to the activity.

In view of the fact that Ayers is an admitted unrepentant murderer in his acts against the USA and the people he killed, I don't believe it's appropriate to give him a forum for his UN propaganda campaign. No matter how well "qualified" the man may be as an "academic" among peers of a like political and social outlook, he really belongs in jail, serving his lifetime without parole sentence. It was only by legal technicality/mistakes from an over-zealous fed prosecution that Ayers avoided having to pay any price for his crimes, which he now crows about having been not been enough for his cause.

As for our state superintendent of education, The Cheyenne Herald has had a most interesting series of articles about the man and his phony qualifications to hold the job along with his defective career history. McBride threatened to sue the publication for revealing the fraud, and The CH responded by inviting him to do so. They even made a point of posting every issue how many weeks it had been since they'd received the threat and that it had not been followed up ... apparently, since the CH's reporting was true, hence not a defamation of character. S&L, you can assert all you want that Wyoming isn't as conservative as many perceive it to be, but citing McBride as a representative person of the Republican party here has as much validity as certifying Bill Clinton as a Democrat of high moral standards and marital fidelity.

Hey Happy in Wyoming,

I have 32 years working in Wyoming Public Education. Every dime of taxpayer money I earned.

I'm sorry; I don’t believe I asserted that Dr. McBride is representative of the Republican Party; indeed, the opposite is true.

I stated that Dr. Jim McBride identifies himself as a Republican. McBride's obvious approval of these Bill Ayres speaking engagements and agenda is ample evidence to illustrate that Dr. Jim McBride is not a conservative nor does he follow the Republican platform.

Politicians in Wyoming learned long ago that identifying themselves as Republican dramatically increased their chances of being elected. This case is an excellent example of what happens when people vote by Party affiliation rather than candidate awareness. I hope those days are over.

As a UW alum (class of '75), maybe what we alums should do is let the school know that we may not be quite so forthcoming with our $$ if they give voice to an anti-American criminal like Ayers.

Of course, we now have a Marxist in the White House, so why not a terrorist at UW?

I don't live in Wyoming but frankly I find your statement somewhat offensive. I am a school teacher and I abhor the fact that a radical nut-job like Ayers is even setting foot in Wyoming, let alone speaking there. But there is a thing called "Freedom of Speech" and if taxpayer money isn't funding this, I don't see what it is about teachers in general that you have to complain about. From the sentiments expressed on this thread, I haven't seen one person in wholehearted support for Ayers.

it might interest you to see some of the comments on the Laramie Boomerang regarding Ayers visit http://www.laramieboomerang.com/articles/2010/03/27/news/doc4bad8cfbe4498248742567.txt

" As a current teacher and alumni of the University of Wyoming, I am ashamed of the university for hosting this man. I refuse to support the university in additional financial support or with any recruitment for future students at the junior college level or high school level. My children will NOT be allowed to attend an institution that supports ANTI- AMERICAN terrorists. "

Barring a few radicals, most people are sensible enough to discount the anti-American hog-wash this guy pedals.

I may not live in Wyoming....yet.....but will as of June 1st. Therefore I take very seriously the fact that this travesty is taking place. William Ayers should be in prison, not speaking at any University.

I will be emailing the following people who are on the Board of Trustees and certainly encourage everyone on this forum to do the same.
