The Charlotte area, on average, gets about 6" per year. But Ft. Mill itself (a suburb south of Charlotte) probably averages somewhere between 5"-6". In the Charlotte area, the city seems to be the rain/snow line many times when we get storms. The farther north and west of the city you live, the more snow. The more south or east, the less snow. But, interestingly, we get suprises. Last winter, no snow at all. Two years ago, the got 18" in one storm, with the Ft. Mil/Rock Hill area getting nearly 2 feet. Not the norm, but it makes it interesting. But the snows we get on average are fun; enough to be pretty and fun for the kids, but not so much you end up hating it (gone within a few days). Funny you should have started this thread. We are moving to Fort Mill in Febuary from Pa. My kids are really worried by the thought of no snow. I am hoping we get at least one good one here in Pa. before we go or the snowboard my oldest is getting for Christmas will be a bit of a waste.
It does snow is Fort Mill. (Or at least it did when I was growing up in Rock Hill.) We once had snow as late as April (if I recall correctly) in the late 70's or early 80's.

Hey there friendc - the year we ended up getting 18" in one snow storm was our first night in our new home in Tega Cay (no food, no snow shovel, etc...) ...which was close to 3 years ago now.
Of course now that we are all prepared....hadn't had much to speak of....but I'm not complaining (ask the kids though...and they will say something else).

Don't think you will have enough for a snowboard around here locally...but the Boone/Blowing Rock, NC area is only 2 hours away.

Snow can be a funny thing here in the Carolinas. When my wife and I were on our honeymoon in Myrtle Beach back in 1/88, it snowed about 1". It was so odd. Snow on the sandy beach, 26 degrees with high winds, NO road- clearing equipment at all. Back here in the Charlotte area, we were getting 14"-18".
thats funny - we are from PA too and also considering Fort Mill. What part of PA are you from? We are from Pitt. What schools are you going to send you kids too?
