Description: Originally constructed as part of the reclamation of the riverbanks after several years of serious flood damage, this multi-use path is one of the prettiest places to exercise anywhere.Stretching from I-10 to Craycroft Road, this linear park is a favorite outdoor place for many Tucsonans. It’s also the site of many “walks” for charitable organizations throughout the year.Paved and unpaved paths run along either side of the river, with both sides available for skating, jogging, and walking. Cycling is limited to the north bank, and horseback riders are limited to the south side (although you’ll find some great riding in the riverbed itself). The only other rules concern right-of-way. Signs are posted along the way to remind you who gives way to whom. Water fountains, restrooms, picnic areas, and parking can be found at certain cross streets, and a few picnic areas with grills are scattered throughout. Footbridges cross the river at various halfway points between the street entry points. The landscaping is complemented by beautiful public art, mainly metal and tile work. Midway along the route is Children’s Memorial Park, dedicated to hundreds of area children who have died. A large plaque engraved with the names of the children and a statue stand in tribute. Also en route is the lovely Brandi Fenton Memorial Park with splash pond and off-leash dog parks (see the Parks & Recreation chapter). Dog lovers will adore the shady, beautiful off-leash dog park, the Smiling Dog Ranch, hidden behind trees on the east side of the path just before Mehl Park’s baseball fields.Enter the park at any major cross streets. Parking for cars can be found at the access ways.
