Description: No, the Napa Valley Wine Train, as described in this chapter’s close-up, doesn’t connect to an Amtrak line. The nearest Amtrak station to Wine Country is in Martinez, about 30 miles southeast of Napa. Amtrak runs buses from Napa, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, and Cloverdale that will drop you off at an Amtrak station or deliver you from a station (even farther away from Wine Country, but still in the Bay Area, are stations in Oakland/Emeryville and San Jose). The fee varies with destination but generally is reasonable. From Martinez the rail line can take you practically anywhere in the country. Call Amtrak for details.

Description: The VINE is a multiline municipal bus service within Napa Valley. Five lines are within the city of Napa and its environs; a sixth runs all the way from Vallejo to Calistoga (this was formerly known as the Napa Valley Transit, and locals might still refer to it as NVT). The basic fare in town is $1.25 for adults (more for the longer route), $1.00 for students, and 60 cents for seniors and the disabled. All the buses are accessible by wheelchairs and have bicycle racks. Daily service is offered, but weekend schedules are slightly more limited.
