Media - Denver, Colorado

Media

Greater Denver is not exactly a media center, at least not in the sense of New York or Los Angeles. It doesn’t produce a lot of television programs or magazines, though it does occasionally show up in movies. Still, as the largest city between California and Missouri, Denver has a wealth of respected print, television, and radio broadcast media outlets.

Description: Owned by Village Voice Media, a national publisher of “alternative” papers, Westword is known for its muckraking investigative stories and is depended upon for its arts and entertainment coverage. Not everyone admires the weekly paper’s zeal in pursuing stories, as is evidenced by heated letters to the editor. But many of its articles, such as an investigation of the Rocky Flats grand jury proceedings that examined who should be held responsible for environmental crimes, have won awards and national media attention.Westword is distributed free throughout Metro Denver and hits the streets late Wednesday afternoon. You can find it in boxes on street corners all over town. Its arts/dining/entertainment listings are superb.
