Relocation - Living Here

As Hartford poet Wallace Stevens once said, “There are no foreigners in Connecticut. Once you are here you are or you are on your way to become a Yankee.” For those of you relocating and living here in Connecticut, you have different concerns than the tourist or occasional visitor to these hills and shores. Among other things, you no doubt want to know about real estate, education, and health care.

The first question is where to live. Places that are not heavily featured in the attractions or activities sections of the book can often be some of the best places to live, especially if you want quiet. Would you like to live in what is essentially a postcolonial village untouched by time, but without the tourists? Try Colebrook in Litchfield County. Want to live in a land of wooded lakes away from the cities but close enough to drive in for dinner? Try Weston or Easton in Fairfield County. Want to live in a shoreline town, but not pay outrageous prices? Try Milford or West Haven in New Haven County.

Of course, most of our decisions are guided more by necessity than by our fantasies. This section of the book will help you make those choices a little more wisely.
