Description: What this festival is all about and what kind of crowd it attracts is no surprise. In addition to live music, there are arts and crafts, a variety of food and goods vendors, and rotating music acts to spice things up. The event attracts some notable musicans along with Marley’s children. In addition to the standard admission price, all guests are required to bring four canned goods, which are then donated to various charities.


2. Miami International Map Fair

Description: Map dealers, collectors, and just general lovers of cartography come from all over to attend this annual event at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. Antique maps from around the world are exhibited, many of which are for sale. There are also workshops, lectures, and even a cocktail reception, which requires that advance tickets be purchased. Visitors can bring their own antique maps for appraisal or just to find out their origin and history. General admission is $10 for the public, $5 for members of the museum, and may be purchased at the door. Proceeds go toward museum upkeep and community outreach programs.

3. Miami Goin’ Green Earth Day Festival

Description: This free event takes place annually on Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Various recreational and educational activities are open to the public. Seminars and workshops have included topics on yoga poses, volunteering, water systems, sustainable living, green mobility, and life food, among others. Take advantage of an electronic recycling center for old TVs and printers, a clothing swap, free paper shredding, and a free bike valet.

4. Miami Carnival

Description: Colorful (and sometimes skimpy) costumes, steel bands, and food can all be found at this celebration of Caribbean culture. The annual event attracts over 100,000 visitors every year. It is the last stop on the carnival circuit that begins in Trinidad. The Miami event has been running for 25 years, and will give participants a good flavor of the other events worldwide.
