Description: Latvian immigrant Edward Leedskalnin began building this monument in 1923 as homage to an unrequited love with tons of coral that he carved into his home and furniture. His handiwork, specifically a heart-shaped table, earned him a spot on Ripley’s Believe it or Not list as the “World’s Biggest Valentine”; a rocking throne, bird bath, and working sundial are among the various enormous objects that visitors can admire. Self-guided tours are available.

Description: Perhaps South Flroida’s best known major ecosystem, the Everglades is an animal sanctuary. Land development has contributed to its shrinking size, but there is still plenty to do and see, including a vast array of wildlife and landscapes. Many come to hike, bike, boat, fish, and canoe. The visitor center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and has plenty of information and pamphlets to get visitors on their way. Individuals can enter without a tour group as well. Entrance fees vary; it’s $10 for a private vehicle, $5 for pedestrians and cyclists, and $25 for an annual pass from the date of purchase.
