Description: Make like Ponce de Leon (who landed here in 1513) and explore this stunning state park. There are over 400 acres of walking and biking trails, as well as the historic Cape Florida lighthouse. Built in 1825, the lighthouse is Miami’s oldest standing structure. Tours of the lighthouse and keeper’s house are given twice daily, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Thurs through Mon. It is advisable to arrive at least 30 minutes early to sign up. After the tour, stop by the Lighthouse Cafe for a refreshing cerveza. Those looking to take in more of the park’s lush scenery can rent kayaks, bikes, and pedal boats. The park is also known for its snorkeling. On a budget? Set up a chair and enjoy the Biscayne Bay and Atlantic Ocean shorelines. There are also plenty of picnic areas with tables, grills, and pavilions. There is an $8 parking fee for two or more occupants and $4 for a single occupant. The park’s No Name Harbor allows boats to anchor overnight, which is usually $15, but consult the website for details.
