Description: Matheson Hammock is an ideal spot for families, picnics, and those seeking solitude or just a little peace and quiet. The park’s unique man-made atoll pool (flushed by the Biscayne Bay) provides a tranquil space for floating. The lagoon’s calm, lukewarm waters also make it ideal for those with young children. Besides swimming, there are plenty of nature trails one can ramble along. Coral rock pavilions, replete with grills and picnic tables are perfect for larger groups wishing to congregate and play. Shower and restroom facilities are ranked as one of the best (a.k.a. cleanest) among Miami public beaches. There is also a nearby marina that offers boats a place to dock and has its own sailing school. Make sure to bring along mosquito repellent.

Description: This favorite South Miami park is open sunrise to sunset and is a favorite tennis spot. There are also handball and pro beach volleyball courts that can be used on a first-come, first-served basis. 4. Splitsville

Description: A dress code of “comfortable, dress to impress” is suggested, implying that this is yet another upscale bowling environment. Cut-off shorts, baggy clothes, and athletic gear are prohibited after 8 p.m. The menu is a high-end hodgepodge of small dishes including spicy edamame, asparagus manchego, and tuna tatki. Those on tighter budgets can order specials such as $5 pizza and sushi on Tues and Thurs, respectively, as well as $2 lanes on Tues after 9 p.m. While reservations must be made through a Splitsville Social Director, large parties can “get the ball rolling” by requesting a specific date through the website.

Description: The latest exercise craze to sweep Hollywood (Kelly Osbourne credits her svelte, new figure to it), the Bar Method is a combination of yoga, Pilates, and ballet. The program targets every major muscle group in an attempt to visibly change body shape. The desired result is longer, leaner muscles that give the body an overall slimmer appearance. One-hour classes cost $24. Unlimited monthly memberships and class packages are available. Due to its current popularity, the studio recommends students reserve classes online to ensure a spot.
