3. Pizza King

City: Council Bluffs, IA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (712) 323-9228
Address: 1101 N. Broadway

Description: An old-school pizza joint just across the river from Omaha in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Pizza King does serve up pie, but it’s also known for great steaks and seafood. The inside of Pizza King hasn’t changed since the late 1970s, and it has the distinct feel of a Midwestern “old-school steak house.” Think dark colors, a big fireplace, bricks, and lots of decor in the era-specific hue of old gold. Singular signature pizzas include one topped with cream cheese and jalapenos, though many diners stick to the old standbys: cheese and hamburger or just plain cheese. The menu at Pizza King is vast, and those looking for a finer experience can find it with a cut of beef, an order of onion rings, and a glass of wine or a beer, all for a more than reasonable price point. Pizza King is truly a Bluffs original, and it’s worth the trek across the river for a memorable meal.
