Description: Offering a calm, sheltered refuge, Hyannis Marina has 180 slips, diesel fuel and gasoline, water and electrical hookups, and a complete parts and service department. The marina can accommodate everything from motor boats to mega-yachts up to 200 feet. It has a full restaurant and bar; swimming pool; cabana bar; courtesy and rental cars; showers; dockside telephone, Internet, and TV service; a coin-operated laundry; and game room. The facility also includes an electronics and canvas shop, valet rack service, a marine store, and emergency service. It is open year-round.

Description: Open year-round on Route 132, this store has access to sit-on-top kayaks, which have no cockpit and are often used by scuba divers. The store also carries flat-water kayaks, which are shorter, and sea kayaks, which range in length from 15 to 22 feet and are used for touring, because they have a lot of storage capacity. Eastern Mountain Sports also has a full range of paddles, flotation vests, safety equipment, maps and charts, camping and backpacking equipment, and clothing for sale in their retail store. EMS recently started to offer an occasional basic kayak tour for beginners to intermediates. Call for a schedule and rates.

Description: This year-round Hyannis shop sells everything to do with the three sports of surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. They offer all the clothing and accessories you’ll need as well as videos to help you learn the techniques, and also a repair service.

4. The Dive Locker

Description: This store offers full scuba and snorkel gear rentals, swimming supplies, and scuba instruction classes and leads local dives and charters. Call ahead to reserve equipment or schedule a dive during the summer months. Open daily year-round.

Description: A full-service scuba-diving shop, Sea Sports caters to snorkeling. Sea Sports organizes an informal dive club and night dives, and also has a full-service surf shop. The shop is open year-round.

Description: One of the Cape’s oldest tackle shops still run by its original owners, Sports Port sells all salt- and freshwater tackle as well as shellfishing gear and fly-tying equipment. This shop is open year-round.

7. Cape Cod Crusaders

Description: Soccer has come to Cape Cod with the Cape Cod Crusaders. All home games are played at Barnstable High School. Game time is 6:15 p.m. The Crusaders, who compete in the Premier Development League, considered the top amateur league in the country, won back-to-back PDL championships in 2002 and 2003. Players come from as far away as Ireland and England, and others hail from nearby New England colleges. Games can draw as many as 2,000 spectators. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Tickets are sold in packages if you know that you will be attending three or more games during the season. Description: Slated to open in the fall of 2009, this facility replaces the now-demolished Joseph P. Kennedy Memorial Skating Park. The new facility will have two ice-skating rinks, a teen center, and a walking track. The $25 million building will also have a basketball court and is close to outdoor basketball courts, ball fields, and the town’s skateboard park. A semipro hockey team is expected to play at the new center.
