Description: Gardens and water views are two of the attractions at this 1898 inn a block from the harbor. There are 17 guest rooms inside the big old place, on the second and third floors. Each has a private bath and is simply furnished. Many have views of Penobscot Bay or the inn’s own gardens. Pretty porches out front. And the dining room is one of the best in Castine. Breakfast is included in the price of the room. Open from May through October. No children under eight.

Description: Castine’s oldest summer hotel, built in 1894, the Pentagoet is a gracious place, with its turret, window box, and bunting. The 1894 Queen Anne-style mansion has 16 rooms inside, each with nicely aged furnishings, vintage lithographs, a big headboard, and a private bath. Dining here is good as well. Rates include breakfast and use of the inn’s bikes to see what there is to see in this historic town.
