Description: Mainers have a love-hate relationship with “the Mall.” They love the ease, convenience, and selection that more than 140 stores in one place afford, but they hate the traffic, congestion, and tackiness that go along with it. The state’s largest shopping center, the Maine Mall is anchored by Sears, Macy’s, Best Buy, and JCPenney, and inside are the kinds of stores you expect to find in a major mall: Gap, Victoria’s Secret, Olympia Sports, Eddie Bauer, Abercrombie, and Brookstone. In recent years, this one-level mall has turned a bit yupscale with the addition of Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma. Several other retail plazas have sprung up all around the mall, as well as chain eateries like Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, and Pizzeria Uno, and movie theaters. The food court is open Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
