Description: The facade of the Hollywood Wax Museum is fashioned after Mount Rushmore, except that the larger-than-life faces are of famous movie stars, not presidents. The 115-foot-long, 50-foot-high stone front is adorned with the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, John Wayne, and Elvis Presley. If you happen not to see that, you surely won’t miss the marquee of a man and an old-time movie camera perched high on a beam facing the building. The collection of 170 wax figures inside the building is equally impressive. From the 60-foot-tall King Kong in the entry to the Hall of Presidents to the moving display of the Last Supper, the museum is packed with uncanny likenesses of dozens of notable TV, movie, sports, political, and historical figures. There’s a Land of Oz display complete with Dorothy, a set from the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and even a display of Grand Ole Opry stars. The crypt room houses the Alien, Dracula, Elvira, and a dead ringer for Jason of the Friday the 13th movie series. (No pun intended.) You’ll find Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio figures from Titanic, and there’s even a Mark McGwire figure poised for a home run. You can get your picture taken with Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and other “wax celebrities.” The Hollywood Studio Store, located inside the museum, is the area’s largest celebrity-merchandise shop. Self-guided tours usually take one hour. The museum is open seven days a week, year-round, from 8 a.m. until midnight. Tickets are $11.95 for adults and $5.95 for children 4 to 11. Kids younger than four get in free.
