Memorial Park - Parks & Recreation - Omaha, Nebraska

City: Omaha, NE
Category: Parks & Recreation
Address: 6005 Underwood Ave.

Description: In the heart of midtown Omaha, Memorial Park is one of the city’s busiest public parks and, unless it’s the dead of winter, is almost always full of activity. One of the park’s busiest days happens every July 4, when the First National Bank of Omaha–sponsored Fourth of July concert takes place; tens of thousands of people descend on the park for the free show and the fireworks that follow. On any given day, intramural sports teams play games in the green space on the north side of Dodge Street, and people run and walk with and without pets on the surrounding trails. The park butts up to the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus on the south side of Dodge. Visitors will find more trails, a playground, a pool, a ballpark, a large-scale sculpture by Omaha artist Leslie Iwai called Sounding Stones, and a paved pavilion and clubhouse that are a popular destination for summer weddings.
