Description: NPR favorite and Omaha native Kurt Andersen fancies Jackson Street Booksellers so much, he wrote about it in the New York Times. That’s true book-lover romance. Andersen isn’t the only one who loves the place: It’s a favorite of locals, too. The used bookstore—easily the best in the city—is packed full of books from floor to ceiling, books stacked on the floor and books filling chairs and corners. Like any good used bookstore, organization doesn’t matter as much as what one comes across by chance, and there’s lots of good stuff to be hunted out at Jackson Street. The characters you’ll find working in the bookstore are almost as charismatic as the place itself. The bookstore is a cell phone free zone, and a sign posted on the store’s front door says as much. Patrons would be well advised to turn their BlackBerry to vibrate and embrace a more old-school, printed word inside.
