Description: The U.S. Navy really rolls out the carpet at this annual event at NAS Fallon. It’s such a great event for all ages that it just gets bigger and better every year. While it may seem strange to have such a naval presence in the middle of the desert, the Fallon air station has been a vital part of our nation’s defense since the 1940s. (See the Day Trips chapter for more about the base.) The air show features a variety of precision flying demonstrations, such as those put on by the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels, along with numerous static displays of aircraft and rescue equipment. One of the highlights of the show is the Wall of Fire, a simulated bombing run featuring impressive pyrotechnics. Parking and admission are free.Fallon is 60 miles east of Reno/Sparks. Take Interstate 80 east to Fernley, take the second exit, and look for signs to Alt. U.S. Highway 50 and Fallon. To get to the base, take U.S. Highway 95 south for about 5 miles to Union Lane, and then follow the signs.
