Description: Comfort Keepers is a national network that has franchises in 47 states. The Gettysburg location is a satellite office of the franchise that’s located in Fayetteville, about 20 miles west of Gettysburg. More than 80 caregivers are employed by the franchise, which has been in business since 2000. Nonmedical in-home care is provided, and services include companionship, light housekeeping, transportation, meal preparation, grocery shopping and errand running, personal-care assistance, bathing assistance, walking assistance, medication reminders, and help for clients needing to get to appointments. Most clients are fairly mobile, and Comfort Keepers rarely assists individuals who are bed bound. Caregivers are employed by the company, not independent contractors, so clients do not have to deal with paying one fee to the agency and one fee to the actual caregiver. Comfort Keepers also screens all caregivers, and the franchise and the caregivers are fully insured. All care is provided either at the client’s home or assisted-living facility at times requested by the client, and the client determines how much care he or she needs. A minimum of 3 hours up to the day’s entire 24 hours may be scheduled, and schedules are made up weekly to allow flexibility.
