Garryowen Irish Pub - Nightlife - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

City: Gettysburg, PA
Category: Nightlife
Telephone: (717) 337-2719
Address: 126 Chambersburg Street

Description: This wonderful new addition to Gettysburg’s nightlife opened during the summer of 2007 and took over the location formerly occupied by Hamilton’s Tavern. Owner Kevin McCready is a native of Ireland, and he brings a bit of his homeland to Gettysburg through “cool, cainte, and craic.” For those of you not up on your Irish, that’s music (cool), talk (cainte), and fun (craic), and all are available in abundance. Celtic bands are often booked here, and unlike many bars the music is not at the noise level where you have to shout to carry on a conversation. Musicians are welcome to bring their own gear or they can use the two guitars, bass, drum kit, and microphones that are always on hand in case the mood to jam strikes any of the patrons. The pub offers a full bar with a good selection of draft beer and a varied menu (see the Restaurants chapter) that includes some traditional Irish fare. It’s open till 11:30 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, till 2:00 a.m. on Thursday through Saturday, and till 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
