Description: ACOFA, one of 52 agencies on aging located throughout Pennsylvania, is a private, not-for-profit operation dedicated to providing assistance to and advocacy for older people. They offer a wide range of services to seniors age 60 and older. Some of the services are free while others are billed on a sliding-fee scale, where seniors pay a portion of the fee for the services based on monthly income. And donations are always welcome! Services available range from helping seniors fill out health insurance and government forms to providing help with everyday activities, such as meal preparation, bathing, dressing, and light housekeeping. ACOFA also runs the senior centers, delivers hot meals to homebound seniors through the Meals on Wheels program, and provides domiciliary care for adults who can’t live independently. Seniors can also borrow limited medical equipment for a short time, such as canes, walkers, and shower benches, from the agency. In short, if you’re a senior and you have a question about a service or a problem you need help with, ACOFA is the place to call. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about senior issues and who provides what services to seniors throughout the county.
