Category: Retirement
Telephone: (717) 337-1345, (800) 830-6473

Description: The ACTA provides transportation throughout the county for seniors, and the fare depends on the age of the rider, the rider’s income level, and the purpose and distance of the trip. Trips to medical appointments, senior centers, grocery stores, and banks are usually free for seniors age 60 or older. All subsidized transportation requires you to verify your qualifications for a particular program, so you need to call ACTA or the Adams County Office for Aging (see the listing within this chapter) for information before you begin to use the transportation. Reservations for your trip must be made by 11:00 a.m. the day before transportation is needed. Service for ambulatory seniors is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the Gettysburg area. Residents who live in the Gettysburg area who require the use of a wheelchair can have transportation provided at various times Monday through Friday. Rides in other parts of the county are usually available from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays only, but times are limited in some outlying areas. If you use a wheelchair or live outside the Gettysburg area, ACTA suggests you call them to check on transportation availability before you schedule an appointment. The ACTA is closed and does not provide transportation on New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
