Description: In 1993 a professional men’s soccer league team, the Charleston Battery, was formed, joining the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues. After placing at the top of the Atlantic Division in ’94 and ’95, the team advanced to the USISL finals in 1996 and won the league championship in a thriller: a 3-2 match decided in a shootout. In 1997 the Battery changed to the new Division II A-League (one notch below Major League Soccer), and in 2000 they won the Atlantic Division Championship. In 2003 the Battery claimed the A-League crown. The team was a 2006 USL semifinalist and won the USL-2 championship in 2010. You can catch all the action at the $4.5 million soccer-specific Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island (just off I-526 between the Cooper and Wando Rivers). The facility provides fun for the whole family with an expansive kids’ “Fun Zone” and the Three Lions Pub. The games run Apr through Aug. Charleston Battery tickets range from $10 bleacher seats to $18 club seats. Kids younger than 4 are admitted free. Parking is $5 per car.
