Description: Houston Baptist University—also known as Houston Baptist or HBU—prides itself on providing a solid liberal arts education infused with Christian ideals. The university isn’t a liberal arts school in the true sense, though: Undergrads can choose from more than 40 majors in music, business administration, liberal arts, and the sciences. The university also offers both bachelor’s and associate’s degree programs for aspiring nurses, as well as teacher certification and master’s degree programs in Christian counseling, accountancy, psychology, theology, business and management, liberal arts, and education. With only 2,500 undergrads and graduate students, Houston Baptist offers small classes with lots of personal attention. Almost all HBU students are Christian, and most attend school full-­time. Many undergrads live on campus during their first couple of years of college. Annual fees for tuition and room and board total about $33,000.
