Restaurants - Suffolk, Virginia

1. Bunny’S Family Restaurant

City: Suffolk, VA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (757) 538-2325
Address: 1901 Wilroy Rd.

Description: Another place that won’t win a sophistication award, Bunny’s is as much a part of Suffolk as Planters’ Mr. Peanut. This is where all the garden clubs and others have traditionally lunched and where, until a recent renaissance downtown, nearly everyone went to eat. This is basic Southern food, with all the requisite bacon fat for flavoring, almost like a family-run truck stop. If you want a good country breakfast, give Bunny’s a try.

2. Vintage Tavern

City: Suffolk, VA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (757) 238-8808
Address: 1900 Governors Pointe Dr.

Description: This restaurant has been named one of the top 50 in the United States and a best in the region. You can watch the chef create his masterpieces at a demonstration kitchen. The fare is inspired by Southern traditions and based on local supplies. It’s also one of the top wine bars in the region.

3. Jammin Jerk Bbq

City: Suffolk, VA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (757) 923-2934
Address: 148 Bennets Way

Description: A tornado destroyed Dorothy Lovell’s first try at a Caribbean restaurant in Suffolk only two weeks after it opened. But after searching a decade for the perfect location, she wasn’t about to let one twister do her in. The restaurant reopened at Freedom Plaza and you can drop in for some ox tails or a jammwich, a jerk pork sandwich.

4. Primo 116 Bistro Italiano

City: Suffolk, VA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (757) 923-0116
Address: 116 West Washington St.

Description: There was a time not that long ago that dining in Suffolk meant eating at Bunny’s, not that there was anything wrong with that. It’s still one of our favorite places to get comfort food. But these days, Suffolk can hold its own with any city when it comes to Italian food thanks to Primo 116. What’s surprising is that it took so long. It was Amadeo Obici, after all, who put Suffolk on the map when he moved Planters Peanuts here. He’d be proud to eat at Primo’s. Check out the extensive Italian seafood offerings, which makes sense since the owner, Steve Gellas, is also known as the Surfing Chef.

5. Plaza Azteca Restaurantes Mexicanos

City: Suffolk, VA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (757) 934-1726
Address: 1260 Holland Rd.

Description: Another long-time local favorite, George’s is a relaxed, family-run steakhouse, where you can get a get a carnivore’s rush without taking out a loan. Like most Greek steak places in the area, they also do seafood and spaghetti.
