Description: This restaurant offers a Greek twist on Italian favorites. Excellent hot and cold appetizers and “the largest sandwiches in town” complement a wide selection of pastas and pizzas. Pastas and breads are fired in the brick hearth, which imports a special, smoky flavor that is unmistakable. Located across from the International Village, it is often busy with European students who come to Williamsburg in season to work at Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. Children are welcome.

For dry-land diners, options include milk-fed veal, prime beef dishes, and tableside gourmet preparations. A wine steward will help you select a vintage to enjoy with your meal, and cocktails also are available. You might select one of the flambé desserts to top off a pleasant dinner. Address: 5251 John Tyler Hwy

Description: This cafe with a relaxed atmosphere has a small dining room that is often packed—evidence that the food and service are excellent. While casual in demeanor, the restaurant serves very fine grilled and baked entrees, with fresh fish, meats, and pastas, as well as burgers, a creative children’s menu, and super desserts from the Carrot Tree Kitchens, a popular local bake shop. Note that it is a favorite of those coming or going to the seven movie theaters around the corner. Open for lunch and dinner Mon through Sat, it is usually busiest just before and after the evening movies. Insiders know not to leave without inquiring what freshly baked goodies are on the dessert list for the day.

68. The Williamsburg Lodge Bay Room And Cafe

City: Williamsburg, VA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (757) 229-2141, (800) TAVERNS
Address: 310 South England St.

Description: Fine breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are available in the Bay Room every day of the week, but two meals are worthy of special acclaim. Williamsburg insiders return again and again to the brunch on Sunday, which offers made-to-order omelets and a buffet with fine breads, pastries, fruits, and hot dishes. Every Friday and Saturday evening, the Chesapeake Bay Seafood Feast offers a bounty of fresh seafood consistently favored by residents of the area. We recommend reservations for all Bay Room dinners, but especially for these two meals. The cafe provides quick, excellent meals also. The setting, menu, and price are scaled down somewhat from the Bay Room, and the mood is less formal. But the food is well prepared, well served, and tasty. You must at least consider the desserts.
