Description: Much of the park’s land belongs to the City of Middleton and a portion is governed by Dane County. The conservancy contains marshland, springs, prairies, meadows, lowland forest, and wooded hills perfect for nature lovers and especially birdwatchers. A large hill to the north in the county-governed portion offers a view all the way to the Capitol in Madison. Crushed-stone paths circle the park, and another path follows Pheasant Branch Creek crossing through the water but also offering stepping stones to keep shoes dry. The park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. There are several pedestrian entrances to the park area, but it is best to enter and park at Orchid Heights Park.

Description: With views of Madison and Lake Mendota, the name makes sense. The course features 27 holes with a nice par 3 course, which is great for beginners or irons work. The driving range, putting green, and pitching area are nice.

3. Capitol Ice Arena

Description: The arena offers a varying schedule of open skating and hockey playing throughout the year. Fees are around $4 to $5 with some special all-day affairs for about double that which include longer hours, free refreshments, music, and lights.

4. Quarry Skate Park

Description: Rollerbladers and skateboarders alike enjoy this 10,000-square-foot skate facility across the street from Capital Brewery. The park is seasonal, open during daylight hours from Mar 15 to Dec 15. There is no supervision on-site and proper safety equipment is highly recommended. BMX bikes are not allowed. A portable toilet is on-site and off-street parking is available. Admission is free.
