- Lack of effective pest exclusion
Effective measures are not being taken to exclude pests from the processing areas. Specifically, I observed the overhead doors to plants one and two were left open during the duration of this inspection. In addition, a pedestrian door along the east wall of plant one was left open during the duration of the inspection. During the walk-through of the premises I observed, bird-like feces on the floors in plants one and two. I also observed a bird-like feather on the floor near the inlet carbon dioxide chiller in plant one. I also observed a bird-like feather on the floor near three palatalized super totes of activated carbon, which is used as a processing aide (filter) in manufacturing liquid carbon dioxide. Photographs taken.
- Food-contact - unlawful indirect additives
Failure to maintain food contact surfaces to protect food from contamination by any source, including unlawful indirect food additives. Specifically, I observed intermediate connection fittings, used for loading rail tank cars, were stored outdoors on the load out platforms one and two. These connections were stored unprotected and uncovered, with the hose ends open and exposed to potential sources of environmental contamination. In addition, I observed a bird nesting on rail car load out station #1. The bird's nest and eggs were located approximately two feet from the uncapped connection fittings on platform station #1. Photographs taken.
