I am researching McFaul Trotting Park that was built around 1893. The Wallace Yearbook records trotting results for 1897. Along with several folks from Eastport we are attempting to pinpoint the exact location of the track. Alexander D. McFaul was the builder of the track. In the area of the airport there were several properties owned by the McFaul family. It is understood that the park was built on McFaul property. The Washington County Soil and Water Conservation district provided 1941 aerial photos of the airport and surround land. Either the airport runways were built over the track or with the passing years the halo of the track has just disappeared. In 1895 a grandstand to seat 600 people was built for the 4th of July Celebration. For the Fourth in addition to Eastport's own coronet bands, coronet bands were invited from other towns. Steamers from the West brought tourist to Eastport to stay in "adjacent hotels." In addition to the grandstand, the property also had 10 stables. I'm wondering if aerial photos were taken as part of the process of building the airport. If anyone can provide photos or maps that will lead up to the location of McFaul Park, it would be greatly appreciated!
