Huddart Park/Skyline Loop

Huddart County Park covers 972 acres, containing the huge stumps of big redwood trees, old skid trails from early logging days, second-growth redwoods, firs, and oaks, red-berried madronas, and California bay trees. Among the many trails that are available here for biking, hiking, and horseback riding, the one known as the Huddart Park/Skyline Loop is among the most popular for joggers. A full circuit covers about 8.2 miles and can take an hour or two to complete, depending on the running speed.

The loop is mostly shaded along the way, and moderate trail traffic may be encountered depending on the day and time. The trail surfaces vary from smooth dirt paths to well-maintained fire roads. The elevation gain, however, is 1,500 feet, with very little flat ground at al, thus making the run much more strenuous than the distance might imply.

To get to the Huddart Park/Skyline Loop, take Woodside Road (California Route 84) west to Kings Mountain Road and follow it to Huddart County Park. The park headquarters is located at 4040 Woodside Road, Woodside, California 94062-2545. Parking is available in the Werder parking area, and a $2 per person entrance fee applies. Note that dogs are not allowed in the park.
