Purisima Creek Redwoods

The Purisima Creek Redwoods open space land is just over 3,100 acres located in the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. The trails in the area lead hikers through canyons shadowed by colossal redwood trees, past creeks and atop banks of sorrel and ferns. The hills and ridges are scattered with oak trees and there are grassy plains that are great for stopping during a hike. Most of the hikes feature a moderate climb unless visitors hike the Redwood Trail. There are some water basins at the trailhead, but hikers should bring their own supply. Along the trail you will find a variety of restaurants, camping and lodging options and local attractions. The area is preserved as a place to find fresh air and nature and an opportunity to learn about the ecosystem in the Bay area. Aside from recreation, the land is used as a wildlife habitat, a viewshed, a watershed and environmental education. By linking public park land, the Open Space District preserves a variety of greenbelt space, creating a nature respite for one and all. The District works in conjunction with the Ridge Trail, the Bay Trail and the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail to accomplish this. The entire district is made up of more than 58,000 acres of land which includes 26 total open space preserves.
