Description: The Union Station train shed opened in October 1900 and pushed Nashville into the 20th century, linking the city by rail to the country’s important railroad cities. The Romanesque Revival–style building took more than 2 years to complete, and its opening was a grand occasion. When the building reopened as the Union Station Hotel in 1986 after a 2-year renovation, it was another grand affair. What had become something of an eyesore was saved by historic preservationists in the 1970s, and today it is a magnificently restored National Historic Landmark. The Union Station Hotel offers some of the most elegant and luxurious accommodations in town. Beautiful stained-glass panels adorn the spacious, 3-story lobby’s 65-foot-high vaulted ceiling, while an abundance of decorative gilded accents lend to the room’s classic elegance. Here and there you’ll notice reminders of the hotel’s past, such as the ornate clock in the lobby, which years ago was used to time incoming trains. The 7-story hotel has 125 unique guest rooms, including 11 suites, plus 12,000 square feet of meeting space. Some rooms have vaulted ceilings and open toward the lobby. All rooms have exterior views, 2 dual-line telephones, ergonomically designed desk chairs, irons, ironing boards, plasma TVs, and bathrobes. High-speed Internet access is available. Amenities include concierge service, room service, valet parking, same-day laundry and cleaning service, overnight shoeshine, voice mail, and in-room movies. Copy and fax services are available, too. Union Station’s location near downtown puts you just blocks away from some of Nashville’s trendiest restaurants and clubs in the District, West End, and Music Row areas. You might also want to eat at the hotel’s Union Station Bar & Grill. The hotel’s Prime 108 restaurant is an elegant setting for lunch, dinner, and cocktails. Pets up to 25 pounds are allowed, with a $45 nonrefundable fee.
