Spectator Sports

Music City? Bah, humbug—as anyone who lives here can tell you, sports rule this town. When the Tennessee Titans made it all the way to Super Bowl XXXIV in January 2000, only to lose in the final seconds 23–16, it was a thrilling, albeit heartbreaking, moment for the entire city. The Tennessee Titans have been enthusiastically embraced by Nashville since moving here from Houston in 1997; although the post-2000 seasons haven’t displayed quite the same winning performance, Titans fans have maintained their reputation as the best (and loudest) in the league. Win or lose, we love our team.

Description: Middle Tennessee’s largest running club—with some 1,000 members—sponsors such events as weekly fun runs and fitness walks, road races, and track events. Striders track events are held at local university tracks, such as David Lipscomb University and MTSU. Through the Striders you can also volunteer to work race events such as the Country Music Marathon. The nonprofit group’s website is a great resource, providing a calendar of upcoming race events and online registration forms. When the race is over, they’ll post the results there, too.
