Artery

The Artery in Davis, California is an art gallery with handcrafted and fine art works. The location of the gallery is 207 G Street. The Artery was created in 1974 by a group of artists living in Davis at the time. They came together in order to share ideas and their work. Eventually, a store was started in order to sell their creations. From the beginning monthly exhibits have filled the gallery space to help artists gain consumers.

The Artery is what is known as a co-op in which individuals must join to show their work or have a helping hand from members. A buy in fee of $150 is needed for joining, monthly dues are $34, and there is a commission paid on sales. All sales are 5 percent commission and 26 percent of sales that are $100 or more. A refundable share assessment of $300 is also required to be a member. This amount is refunded in the first two years. Each member works 18 6- hour shifts per year in the gallery to help sell the work. There is also a newsletter and monthly meetings for artists. Media in the shop includes candles, ceramics, fiber, fine art, glass, gourd, jewelry, metal, and photography.
