Discovery Museum Science and Space Center


The Discovery Museum Science and Space Center is located at 3615 Auburn Blvd, Sacramento, CA. The museum features several interactive exhibits, a space center, a planetarium and an archaeology dig.

The museum rotates their interactive exhibits about every six months which are designed to engage children and people of all ages. The Challenger Learning Center is a simulated space mission consisting of a mission control area and spacecraft. It provides three different mission scenarios allowing visitors to experience space.

The planetarium, Northern California's only public planetarium, features a 20-minute star show on the local night sky, as well as hosting extended shows for field trips.

Older children, grades 4-8, have the opportunity to experience an interactive archaeological project led by a trained archaeologist. Discovery weekends provide several family activities including craft time, star and wildlife shows, as well as exploring the museum's fourteen acres.

The museum has various hours of operation depending on the year. During July and August, it is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For September through June, the museum is open noon to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends and is closed on Mondays. The museum is also closed on select holidays.
