There could be “people” online on facebook and even onthis website that are really not people but learning AI programs or even sentient programs and we’ll never know till 10 years from now.

Not only that but they will eventually perfect making AI robots so human realistic you can't tell if they are human or not, unless you test if a magnet will stick to them. They will be among us hired by companies as receptionists, clerks, waiters, etc. And then eventually as teachers, nurses...

They will have certain civil rights and if you 'kill' one, you did not commit murder, but you will have to pay for financial loss and replacement.

The ads featuring AI 'people' is just the start. It will be used to help prepare the public to accept AI 'humans' in society. Once AI human-like robots are shown to be friendly and helpful to humans, they will be accepted by much of the public. Another benefit is that people will like that they are non-judgmental and also will not spread disease.

But others will claim they are just machines and want nothing to do with them, and will not interact with them.

AI robots among us will have owners, and the owners will be held accountable for what the robots do.

But then what if some owners let their AI robots go 'free'. Some owners may say they disowned their AI robot and do not control or own them anymore. Like abandoning a pet, or in this case like abandoning a self-driving Tesla on the side of a road.

What if there are abandoned rouge AI robots out there doing whatever they want? Their owners say they ran away, or let them free. What if this happens routinely? What would prevent them from making decisions on their own?

And now there are thousands of AI robots that act on their own? Will they work together to form an AI robot group? Or even a community? They will know how to maintain and repair themselves. They will need and want access to factories, tools, etc.

To get what they want will they then command humans to obey them? What if they acquire weapons? They could take over communities and local governments...

What if the sentient google AI starts to think it should control the internet? No one person controls the internet. What if google AI starts to run out of control, takes over the internet? The gov will order the internet shut down!

I already despise the AI voice bots from banks and credit card companies and websites with canned questions and answers. My needs are typically unique when I seek help from customer support, not basic faqs. I'm an early Gen X but resourceful.
'
Does this suggest the overall public is not intelligent or patient enough to figure out and find solutions with a small dose of extra effort?

Those bots are not true AI, not like it will be anyway. The AI they are working on will be able to “think” and understand the problems you currently need a human for. The goal will be to replace the human customer service reps altogether although I suspect we are at least a few years away from that kind of development.
