If you mean Shen when you say Halfmoon, then they're both great districts. I believe Shen is a much larger school in terms of student population, if that's a factor for you.

Not sure if this matters to you either but a friend of mine moved to the East Greenbush school district because to her it seemed a bit more progressive/liberal. They had spent a lot of time living in downtown Troy and wanted that same type of progressive vibe. I wouldn't exactly say Halfmoon/Clifton Park is on the "progressive" end of things. Not in a bad sense, just that Halfmoon/Clifton Park definitely is a more conservative/moderate crowd. I'm sure a lot of East Greenbush is that way too, just not as heavily concentrated conservatives if that makes sense.

I believe that parts of the school district are a short drive across the river through/around Rensselaer from Albany as well. So, perhaps the fact that East Greenbush offers more flexibility in terms of access to both Albany and Troy for events, amenities, etc. may be something for the OP to consider.

Some homes in the town of East Greenbush will have a Rensselaer address, but you will not be in the city of Rensselaer. Your address will be something along the line of 1 Anystreet Rensselaer NY, 12144. This tends to scare people off but you are in the East Greenbush school district not the Rensselaer city district. It's a quirk of the area.

That said the east side of the Hudson is the best in my opinion. It's close to every thing with good highway access, but it's still feels kind of out of the way. It gets semi rural fast, but I like that. It's a little more congested than it was 20 years ago, but still nothing compared to going north.

Check the county websites. Halfmoon is in Saratoga County and the Greenbushes are in Rensselaer County. Keep in mind that what is given are the standard rates, but what you pay depends on other factors like exemptions, where you live in a town and price. Even what is listed for homes available may not be what you’ll actually pay. So, those are some things to keep in mind.
