Some photos we took today, Sunday, November 6, 2011, at the "South Valley Dia de los Muertos

We did two videos, one short jazz related which included some of the community center (1 min 50 sec), and then a longer one of various portions of the parade (6 min 37 sec). Enjoy:

I always want to go to this too, but I forget until Rich posts photo's or video's and then I am reminded again, but it is too late because it is after the fact and the vicious cycle starts again.

Thanks, I think my wife took some of them. She also shot the above video "2011 Unmasking The Dream - Marigold Parade", I just did the editing.

There are actually several Dia de los Muertos events during October and November in Albuquerque. This page has a decent description: Albuquerque Day of the Dead - Dia de los Muertos Celebrations in Albuquerque New Mexico

Another: Día De Los Muertos — City of Albuquerque (http://www.cabq.gov/south-broadway-cultural-center/events/dia-de-los-muertos - broken link)

The Marigold Parade in South Valley is one of the oldest Dia de Los Muertos celebrations in the Albuquerque area. Despite the similarity in timing, this is not a halloween but paying tribute to their favorite dead person. So you will see some vehicles, altars etc with pictures of a person, someone who has passed, like here:

Ah... But I tried to remind you all in this thread: https://www.city-data.com/forum/new-m...-events-4.html

But it happens to me, and I am getting older, and don't have as much energy, and there is a lot to do in the area....

I have not seen that thread. Then again I never really look in the New Mexico section. I will start keeping an eye on it.

Thanks.
