Had a great time in Albuquerque's south valley today at the Dia de los Muertos. There was a parade down Isleta blvd that wound into the community center. There was live music, dancing and local art. People were playing with their kids on the huge playground and picnicking all over the grounds. Someone was selling fresh roasted corn on the cob with butter and Chimayo red chile sprinkled on it. Mana from heaven! A great time, so I thought I'd share some pics:

Looks like it was a great time.
We took our daughter to the zoo on Sat. Yesterday, we drove up to Sandia Crest. OMG I could spend forever up there. Will upload some photos later.

Default Dia de los Muertos and Marigold Parade

The Dia de los Muertos and Marigold Parade will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2009. The location of the event is The Westside Community Center: Muertos y Marigolds > Home

Anybody been or going? I'm trying to decide.

Great photos, Rich!

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I would have replied that it's worth going to at least once. I did it last year, and really enjoyed it, except the exhaust from all the dressed up low-riders gave my wife an asthma attack.

Well, I was glad we finally managed to go this year. We will go back. We only watched the parade, we did not have time to go to the Community Center.

My wife did those pictures, I have some more. But I got a short video done:

Yes! Thanks so much for posting -they are awesome--- I went and had a GREAT time, both at the Parade and the community center afterwords. The community center had dancing, art, music and just fun!

There will be an "Arte De Muertos" expo -- day of the dead ghosts and folk art, next weekend Nov 7&8 from 10am to 6pm at the Santa Ana star casino, santa ana pueblo, free admission and free parking. Home . Also some thing at the Hispanic cultural center I believe.

These are the kinds of things that make me love Albuquerque even more than I do now...

My question: does anyone know where to get the skeleton pet costumes and general day of the dead costumes??? I really want to dress up next year....
