a) It's no surprse at all that a chemical beneficial for lowering BP is extracted from a plant leaf...Captopril itself was originaly found in snake venom. Doesn't that make it "natural" too?

b) In round numbers, at the dosage tested, they both lowered BP from 150/95 to 140/90...Not terribly impressive. Both regimens would require either larger doses or addition of a simple diuretic. Those types of pts should be started on the diuretic first anyways.

3) The olive leaf extract dose was 1000mg/d-- A question for the advocates of herbs & spices for medical management-- How many leaves would you have to chew to get 1000mg of the chemical each day?

4) Very interesting that the olive extract resulted in a lowering of triglycerides...and we always thought that olive oil was good at that because it was the unsaturated oil itself. This makes it look like it's a chemical in the oil.

under that argument everything on earth can be classified as natural. that position fails miserably in this context

can one find the captopril chemical in nature? (2S)-1-[(2S)-2-methyl-3-sulfanylpropanoyl]pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid

i poked around a little, hoping to find it, but didnt

Celery, and celery seed extract is another than can help with blood pressure. Celery contains a phytochemical called phthalides. As an extract, it's called NBP, and it relaxes the tissues of the artery walls to increase blood flow and reduce blood pressure.

Seems to work well for me - I take the extract daily and have normal to low blood pressure most of the time.

Garlic is well known to have an antibiotic chemical that is extracted by Russian pharmaceutical companies (Russian "PCN"), chemicials that can be used to treat hi BP and hi chol-- but all three are sulfur compounds that give the garlic its distinctive aroma-- so don't get fooled into buying the OTC stuff that is 'deodorized." It won't work.
