Delta awarded additional Brazil - Atlanta flights.

American Airlines is one of three domestic carriers that the government wants to allow to fly new routes to Brazil.

The Department of Transportation said on Thursday it proposes to award American a new route between Los Angeles and Sao Paulo and allowing Delta Air Lines to add a second flight between Atlanta and Sao Paulo. Under the proposed order, Delta would be able to continue its daily service between Detroit and Sao Paulo and US Airways would be allowed to continue its daily flight from Charlotte to Sao Paulo.

I'm thinking there should be a Delta service from ATL to Tokyo's Haneda Airport. JAL could also bring back their Atlanta-Tokyo/Narita route.

New daily Guatemala City frequency! This brings us to 15 total frequencies a week, generally on 757 aircraft. One service leaves Atlanta late AM and returns in the afternoon, another leaves Atlanta in the evening and returns the next morning. This is really good for timing Europe - Guatemala connections. The market is too small/far to be served by many European nonstops (they only have one to Spain), so Atlanta will likely show up as the most convenient connection for a lot of Europeans booking tickets to Guatemala. If we could add more of these to other big Central American cities (San Salvador, Managua, San Pedro, etc), that would be great.

Also Atlanta is of course on some of Virgin Atlantic's new codeshares--not that this is really exciting or surprising.

Finally, Virgin Atlantic is ramping up Orlando capacity. Definitely a key market for them. There was some speculation about them leaving that market, but I don't see it.

International highlights for Atlanta:

Service to Grand Bahama upgraded to daily from weekly
Fourth daily frequency to Mexico City
Third daily frequency to Monterrey
Third daily frequency to Punta Cana
1-2 additional frequencies to Toronto (7-8 daily now)
Sixth daily frequency to Cancun

Several of the European routes have frequency changes (ie one flight added or cancelled per week), but this is Spring and these schedules are quite volatile. This is in additional to the Guatemala and Kingston expansions.

There are a ton of domestic changes, but these are far more difficult to summarize. New services to Green Bay, Burlington, and a couple others, and a slew of frequency changes.

Also Korean Air upgraded A380 service to Daily instead of three time a week. Having a Korean Airlines 777-300 and A380 daily is really impressive for Atlanta. I just love when Atlanta increase international flights.

I'm not sure, I thought since Korean Air operates two 777's daily flight today . The A380 would replace one of them. I could be wrong. I thinks its great that Atlanta will operate the A380 before major cities like Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Seattle, and Phila.

It makes no sense to me why they wouldn't replace weekly 10x 777 with 7x 380, as the capacities are very similar and running a second, non-daily frequency is usually suboptimal.

But I just looked up schedules for March and it looks like we have daily A380 service and 3x weekly 777-200 service open for reservation.

By my counts, 7x A380 service is 2,849 seats per week, while the current mix of 7x 777-300 and 3x 777-200 is 2,820 seats per week. Seems perfect. Keeping the 777-200 flying 3x a week adds another 783 seats for a new total of 3,632. An upgauge of 20% compared with the status quo, which is really, really good if it is what ends up happening. I'd love to see daily 777 service in addition to the A380 service (or, in a perfect world, Asiana entering the market, which seems less likely).
