F1's Kimi Raikkonen to NASCAR in 2017?: If rumors hold any weight, the sun is setting on Kimi Raikkonen's Formula One career, and he may look to land in NASCAR. He started racing again with the Ferrari team in 2014 (after racing with them from 2007 to 2009) and has just three podium finishes in 39 races. For the last year, many have speculated that Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo has his eye on Raikkonen's seat for 2017. In the past, he raced in the World Rally Championship and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Xfinity Series. It's his NASCAR experience -- one race in each the trucks series and Xfinity series in 2011 -- that is fueling the latest rumors. According to Tanja Bauer of Sky Sport News, Raikkonen could end up in a seat with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2017. It's all conjecture at this point. Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner and three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup winner Tony Stewart is retiring at the end of the season and giving up his seat to Clint Bowyer. The team also employs drivers Kevin Harvick, Danica Patrick and Kurt Busch. Right now there doesn't seem to be room for Raikkonen [as the team is at the max of four cars/drivers]. So if he were to join SHR, it would mean a current driver would leave. The best scenarios for that would be either Harvick or Patrick taking a hike [but Harvick says he is staying and Patrcik is signed thru 2018].(full post at AutoWeek)(3-24-2016)
IMO he waited too long. He might well have been a NASCAR star if he came on board in his early 20's but as Montoya found out NASCAR is no walk in the park.
Räikkönen is way past his prime and he should have retired from F1 in 2014. I think DTM is a better option for him
I agree, Gene's team looks super professional for a new team. Partnering w/ Ferrari doesn't hurt :} He was smart to go w/ an experienced F1 driver too, as these pay drivers are not helping the sport. You never know, they might even win a race before the year is up. Old over-the-hill Kimi did quite well in Bahrain. He still has it, it's been the slow, unreliable cars that have kept him down. And forget him coming to NASCAR. That joke of a race series almost ruined Montoya's career. Kimi is NOT gonna fit into that circus, and it's not like he needs the money.
We've watched the last two races online at Feed4U for free. It's tricky, and you need to get it going just as the cars start the warm up laps, but it works. So far, the races have been more competitive than last year, although you pretty much know which two drivers will win. I hate these hybrid engines, but we're stuck w/ them it looks like. Here in St Pete, the Indycars sounded like real race engines, but the cars look like some sort of Frankencar.
Well, back to the drawing board for Haas. They had a bad time in today's race, as did many of the teams (except Rosberg as usual, who once again ran away w/ things). I'm having a difficult time getting interested in these low powered cars and the strange tracks w/ tons of run off and smooth surfaces, which are more like a slot car track. Here's some info on how the cars were put together way back when, with V12 and V16 engines that produced tons of torque and close to 600 hp....in the 1930's!
It's been backwards technology and engineering for too long in F1. Let's bring back REAL race cars, or we just might end up watching something like this on the tracks
I think the pressure and the celebrity and the youthful testosterone got Kyvat in the first corner and he went for rather more opportunity than was there. The second hit was the result of damage in the first hit.
So far not Lewis's year. Apparently Rosberg had lapped up to 6th place, though, that is just sad.
6th and 10th for McLaren Honda and 8th for Grosjean in Haas - those are points, at least.
