Hopefully there will be some survivors, but we'll see.
And I keep getting uneasy about he stolen passport thing, two individuals (at minimum right now) on the flight who "weren't really on the flight" with confirmed stolen passports...might all be coincident, but it doesn't sit well.
The lack of communication from the plane suggests a catastrophic disaster of such speed that there was no time to react on the part of the crew.
I don't know but wouldn't the 777 having taken off more than 2 hours before it went missing be at an altitude that even in the event of say running out of fuel or and engine failure that there would be time for radio communications from the flight crew?
I was thinking it might have been a mix of weather, pilot error, and or mechanical failure, but with no bad weather and the news of stolen passports, I am increasing the probability of a terror attack.
It seems getting on a plane without proper ID or travel docs isn't such an isolated event. In SF a woman walked onto a plane without a ticket. The only reason she was caught was because a paying passenger with a ticket for that seat assignment complained. From reports, she has done this several times and she isn't a terrorist, just someone who walks by whatever security exists. Meanwhile, make sure to take off your shoes.
I bet every day more than a few people board planes in the USA with fraudulent ID. It isn't a big deal until something bad happens. Stolen or fake IDs are common place, they are easy to get so that could be the case here. I am not saying it wasn't a factor in this tragedy but if someone can board a plane without a ticket just because they want to visit Hawaii...

CNN had an aviation security guy on this morning who talked about an international data-base virtually all countrys have access to which contain a list of stolen/lost passports, so it would seem to be an easy task for all passengers' passports to be cross-checked against this DB when passengers are going thru security to board a flight ?
