I thought you were talking about Edwards, 15,000 feet long. When I was stationed at the now-closed George AFB, 17/35 was "only" 10,500 feet long. I see looking at Google Maps an extension was made to the northern part of 17, it's now about 13,400 feet but the overrun adds another 1500-plus, to 15,000.
I have flown off three 15,000-footers... Edwards (OV-10 and F-16), the Shuttle Strip at Cape Canaveral (OV-10, when the training unit was at nearby Patrick), and 7/25 at Holloman AFB (AT-38). Shortest were the old Glendale, Arizona and Chickasha, Oklahoma's turf runway. Just over 2100 each. After a high-profile crash at Glendale, where a C-172 executed a go-around with carb heat on during a hot day and hit a concrete truck, a move was to get that airfield out of there and put it somewhere with a longer runway, where it is now.
Biggest? Who knows, I've been to O'Hare, JFK, LAX, CDG, Heathrow, Schiphol, Frankfurt..I don't know which one of those is biggest.
Smallest? Probably Zamperini Field in Torrance, CA. It has an IATA code but I don't think there's any commercial service.
Smallest commercial airport would depend on your definition of size again. In terms of runways and length it was probably Faro Airport in Portugal with a single 8,000 ft runway. But that's actually a pretty busy tourist airport serving the popular Algarve region. In terms of traffic at the time of me using it, it would probably have been Tempelhof Airport in Berlin shortly before it closed. At that time it had a few regional connector type routes, but not much else was left. It was Berlin's clear no.3 airport and already doomed. Of course at one point that was one of the world's more notable airports.
I've never actually arrived at or departed from a minor regional airport in the U.S on a commercial flight. I've just never flown to such small places.
Denver (DIA) is the largest in the US and second largest in the world. Been there many times.
Hartfield Atlanta (ATL) is the busiest. Ditto
Smallest? Can't say, but in the early 1950s my father had a Piper Vagabond that was kept at a neighboring farmer's private landing strip. Total of about 10 planes kept there. Don't remember if it was paved or just mowed.
