The Rec, Howard and Center Strets. I bowled there every Sunday night for many years with the Catholic Students Mission Crusade. (The largest Catholic social group in Baltimore at the time.) We took over all four floors.

Does anyone remember the Department store ( Towers) on Wise Avenue in Dundalk, MD - especially when they had a contest where a helicopter dropped ping pong balls to the waiting crowds in the parking lot? The prizes were noted on the ping pong balls. ??? I would really like to find information on this event from the mid 60's
Thanks,
Joe

WCAO, Plough Broadcasting in Baltimore. Kirby [Confer] Scott is still around. I met him at a Friday night CYO sock hop over at St Joseph's Monastery School around 1965. He was emceeing a dance with the "Rockin' Aires" band. I was the usual student DJ, which means I stacked the 45's on the automatic turntable backstage, took requests, made announcements on the microphone and controlled the lights. Kirby was inducted into the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Hall Of Fame in 2003. Follow the link for the rest of the story.

Default More Memories

R&R motors, Reisterstown Rd and Rogers ave, where you could by a red tag special for just $99 dollars. I remember the Harley show which came on the radio after the O's games. Gordons crab house Orleans and Patterson Park Ave, and neighborhood foot patrolman and red fire alarm boxes. The annual "I am an American Day parade" around Patterson-Park.By the way it was 1968 when the houses in lower Canton were torn down, because I remember people in the neighborhood bringing home bricks, to put in ther backyard gardens. Also the banana boats would come into port in Canton and Locust Point. Several trades have fallen by the wayside; shoe repair shops, tailor shops, and corner stores. Also since my dad taught and repaired accordions, I know for a fact that is gone. But I wonder how may oldtimers have an old accordion sitting in a dusty box somewhere in your basement or attic? Or an old pair of CCD hockey skates when Patterson Ice rink opened up? How about an old sled for the park. For you girls how about an old pair of boots, a Chatty-Cathy doll, hot pants or better yet old Dr Scholl execise sandals? Still many Baltimore homes have a pencil sharpener from the 60's mounted on a bsmt wall.

This makes me so sad that I don't live in B-more anymore My first job was a Captain Harveys, and I remember Hechingers and the pencil sharpener on the wall of our first place (as an adult) sealed the deal for me! Reminded me of home!

Hahaha...great post, great memories.
Remember the car ads on the radio, "Bring your wife, your title, and your tomahawk!"?
I remember when Mondawmin Mall opened!
I worked in the Candler Building for years.
Never got to see Elvis Presley, but remember that he did visit Baltimore!
My colleague says that Herndon claims Ronnie Dove as its own (apparently he was born there).

Just curious -- any SWLs or radio amateurs out there who remember the 1950's COBRA guys on 29.0 MHz?

W3IF (His Honor, the Mayor of 29 MHz), W3RKK (Radio's Kindest Kilowatt), W3RMD (Radio's Mad Dutchman), K3HAV (Hot Air Valve), W3WB (Wind Bag), K3JKY (the "friendly" station), W3LL, K3CYX, and others
