Alright, the Houston Astros took care of business in Detroit, taking two games out of three with a great win on Sunday, 9-3. Justin Verlander was vintage in his return to the Motor City, pitching seven shutout innings. The offense came alive in the sixth and continued for the final three innings.
Now, they come home and face the A's. Time to grind it out and build a new winning streak and change their home fortunes. Joey Loperfido has been very good at the plate (.324 BA, .724 OPS, 2-for-5 Sunday) and in the field, but is still seeking his first major league home run after annihilating minor league opponents.

Would you believe the Astros still have a chance................................to contend?
The AL West is quite listless at present, with the first place team (Seattle) a mere four games over .500. Texas has pretty well stayed around .500 for most of the year, so if there is a chance Houston can get hot, then now is the time to strike. The Astros have Oakland at Minute Maid for four games, one of which was a Houston win last night. Spencer Arrighetti finally got his first MLB win, and it appears Alex Bregman may be snapping out of his funk after being put in the six spot in the batting order. I don't want to speak too soon, but it may well look like things are starting to come together for Space City.

Joey Loperfido finally got his first MLB home run tonight vs Oakland at Minute Maid. He's been getting on base regularly, as he's hit safely in five straight games.

Astros are on their way to sweeping the A's.
Which they did. Now, if you can continue that win streak against Milwaukee so that my Cards can try to gain ground.

It could happen. They just need to play like they did prior to tonight's loss.
Win streak, meanwhile, ends at six. I didn't see why Espada decided to pinch-hit for Dubon. Why? Nothing against Caratini, but it's not like Dubon didn't connect. Astros will need to resume with a new win streak tomorrow in the rubber game of the Milwaukee series.

Well, RMESMH, I'd rather they'd be much closer (if not in first) by that time. The Astros are actually benefitting from the Rangers' and Mariners' lackluster play. They will get the true test of their desire and mettle when they travel to Seattle on Monday, and it will be a tough series.
And word has it that Jose Abreu may actually return to the Astros this coming Monday. I'm predicting he won't produce. Singleton has played some good first base and has had some clutch hits, so I think that Abreu won't be long for Houston.
And also, great win for the Good Guys last night in Oakland. Jake Meyers continues to rake.

Astros took care of business winning the series in Oakland. Ronel Blanco is back, and he threw seven strong innings to lower his ERA to 1.99. And Kyle Tucker leads all major leaguers with 18 home runs, which is also a Houston record after the first 53 games of any given season.
It's on to the Pacific Northwest where the Seattle Mariners await a four-game series with the 'Stros. Very critical.
