Eric Lauer (2-1) allowed 5 runs on 4 hits (1 home run) with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts in 6 innings, Brad Wieck (1st hold), and Craig Stammen (6th hold) combined for 1 hit and 3 strikeouts in 2 innings while Kirby Yates (6th save) had a walk and 2 strikeouts in a scoreless inning. Los Angeles is 8-3 and a game up on the 7-4 Pads, D'Backs stay at 5-5 and get to 2.5 out, while the Rockies and Giants remain tied at 3-8 and 5 games off the Dodgers lead. The D'Backs open a home series with the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.

Game 2 of the series was on Tuesday night. Joey Lucchesi (2-0, 0.00) started for the Pads against Derek Holland (0-1, 5.00) and unfortunately that did not go well.

Great road trip, tough end of series loss in Arizona, but very difficult to sweep a 4 game series at home much less on the road so to go 3-1 was pretty good. So they come home to play the second worst in baseball Rockies (I think the Marlins entering play yesterday were percentage points behind) and are 9 outs away from getting swept, and this came the home series AFTER losing 2 of 3 to the D'Backs. Maybe they should just play the remaining games on the road or at least wear road jerseys and maybe bat first at Petco.

You know, the Padres are showing what they're capable of doing. They're surprising a lot of people early on, but that's a good thing.

Ted Leitner's got to be enjoying this....

In other seasons the Padres start bad and finish worse. This time around Spring Training quite well, started the season good, and are still competing for the 1st spot on their division. On past seasons the Padres would be at least 7 games behind by now. This was supposed to be a season to test out their prospects but so far they are doing pretty good.

Default 16-12

Won 2 of 3 in Washington which was good. More good news: The 2 games they won were started by Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer. Now for the bad news.
They missed a huge opportunity for a sweep as they blew a 6-0 lead in the final game, and these are the games you come back and look at at the end of the season if you miss the playoffs. More bad news: After knocking the Nats starter out in the 3rd inning, they had 24 outs to play with the worst bullpen in the league....and they failed to score a single run. Even more bad news: Tatis left the game in the 10th with an injury

Padres could have swept the Dodgers if it wasn't because of the bullpen. 3 or 4 run leads only to be blown off by the relievers and lose the game by 1 run .

Default 2020: 0-0

First time Opening Day Starter Chris Paddack (9-7, 3.33 last year) summed it up perfectly the other day: "We are tied for first with 60 games left to play." Game 1 of that 60 is tonight vs. Arizona, and with news of the expanded playoffs, both the D'Backs and Friars look to benefit with that. With the shortened schedule, every game plays out to about 2.7 wins in a 162 game regular season, so in this opening 4 game set if a team wins 3 of 4 that would be the equivalent of about a week and a half long winning streak; if one team sweeps the 4 game series that would be almost a 2 week long winning streak in an equivalent 162 game season, and might be hard to rebound from that 0-4 hole this year. Madison Bumgarner (6-7, 3.26 last year) makes his official debut for the D'backs after signing over from the West rival SF Giants in the offseason, while the Pads hand the ball to Paddack. Game time slated for 9:10.
